Carriage of Cargo

The essentials

This topic concerns correct placement and securing of cargo in a vehicle. Cargo must not impair stability, restrict the driver’s view, cover required signals or create danger for other road users.

What to remember

Place and secure cargo so that it cannot slide or fall, does not impair vehicle stability and does not restrict steering control or visibility. It must not cover external lights, the registration plate or hand signals. If cargo projects beyond the vehicle’s dimensions, special markings and additional restrictions may be required.

In which direction is a truck allowed to drive? In which direction is a truck allowed to drive?
  1. To the right only
  2. To the right, to the left and in the opposite direction
  3. To the left only

The correct answer: To the right, to the left and in the opposite direction

The truck may turn right, turn left, or make a U-turn, but it may not continue straight. The red circular sign prohibits entry on the road ahead. The blue rectangular sign with a truck only indicates a recommended route and does not prohibit the other otherwise lawful manoeuvres.

Which vehicle driver correctly performs a U-turn? Which vehicle driver correctly performs a U-turn?
  1. The driver of the blue vehicle
  2. The driver of the red car
  3. Both drivers

The correct answer: The driver of the red car

The red car performs the U-turn correctly because it first takes the far-left position for its direction. The blue truck begins from the right edge. That is allowed only as an exception when the vehicle's dimensions make a left-position U-turn impossible and the driver yields to every affected road user.

The driver of which vehicle violates the rules for turning from a road that has a braking lane? The driver of which vehicle violates the rules for turning from a road that has a braking lane?
  1. Both drivers
  2. The driver of the yellow car
  3. Both drivers are turning correctly

The correct answer: The driver of the yellow car

The driver of the yellow car violates the rules. When leaving a road with a deceleration lane, the driver must enter that lane in advance and slow down there before turning. The yellow car turns from the main lane and crosses the special lane, while the blue truck follows the correct sequence.
