Intersections

The essentials

This topic covers the safe passage of controlled and uncontrolled intersections. The learner should be able to identify how traffic is controlled, apply priority rules and correctly determine the order in which road users may proceed.

What to remember

Before entering an intersection, determine whether it is controlled or uncontrolled. At a controlled intersection, the order is set by the traffic light or traffic controller; at an uncontrolled intersection, it is set by road status and priority signs. When turning right or left, also account for pedestrians and cyclists, and do not enter a congested intersection if you would have to stop inside it and block traffic.

Controlled Intersection

At a controlled intersection, the order of passage is determined by an active traffic light or traffic controller. This topic teaches how to identify the active control first, then assess the permitted direction and the need to give way to other road users.

Uncontrolled Intersection

At an uncontrolled intersection, the driver must determine priority using road status, signs and the rules for equal-priority roads. This topic develops the ability to analyse the situation step by step and correctly build the order of passage.

Roundabouts

This topic explains the general logic of entering, driving around and leaving a roundabout. Priority must be determined according to the signs installed at that location and the general rules, not from the circular shape alone.

Order of Passage

The goal of this topic is to determine the order of passage step by step in a situation involving several vehicles. First assess the traffic control, then road priority, the directions of the participants, and only then who must give way to whom.
